Indonesian batik fabric is worn throughout the country on all occasions…from ceremonial gatherings to everyday life. The fabric is worn in a ‘sarong’ form and also made into dress shirts that are widely used throughout the country. This pattern is known as ‘parang’ and was once used exclusively by the Javanese royalty. The design features slanted rows of thick knife-like segments running in parallel diagonal bands.
